Common Law Admission Test.

The full form of CLAT is Common Law Admission Test. It is a national-level entrance exam for admission to undergraduate and postgraduate law programs at various National Law Universities (NLUs) in India. The exam is conducted by the Consortium of National Law Universities. 

Exam Date

The CLAT 2026 exam is tentatively scheduled for December 7, 2025. The Consortium of National Law Universities (NLUs) is expected to begin the application process in July 2025. While the official date will be announced later, candidates should prepare for the exam in the first week of December. 

Eligibility

The CLAT 2025 eligibility criteria require candidates to have passed their 10+2 or equivalent examination from a recognized board. For the general/OBC/PWD/NRI categories, a minimum of 45% marks is needed, while SC/ST candidates require at least 40%. There is no upper age limit for the CLAT UG exam. 

Structure

The CLAT 2025 exam structure includes five sections: English Language, Current Affairs, Legal Reasoning, Logical Reasoning, and Quantitative Techniques. The exam is a 2-hour test with 120 multiple-choice questions, where each question is worth one mark, and wrong answers incur a penalty of 0.25 marks. 

Syllabus

English Language:This section assesses reading comprehension, vocabulary, grammar, and analytical skills through passages from contemporary and historically significant writings. 

Current Affairs, including General Knowledge:This section covers national and international events, awards, schemes, and important historical events. 

Legal Reasoning:This section evaluates the ability to understand and analyze legal concepts, principles, and arguments based on facts, situations, and legal matters. 

Logical Reasoning:This section focuses on critical thinking, reasoning, and problem-solving skills, including identifying relationships, analogies, and logical sequences. 

Quantitative Techniques:This section includes basic mathematics concepts like algebra, mensuration, statistics, and data interpretation, up to the 10th standard level.
